Conrad meets with Supreme Court nominee Kagan, reserves judgment on supporting herBISMARCK (AP) — Sen. Kent Conrad says he met on Wednesday with Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan but will reserve judgment on supporting her until after the confirmation hearings.
The North Dakota Democrat says Kagan's reputation for being smart, fair-minded, and someone who works to find common ground across the political spectrum is well-deserved.
Conrad says he looks forward to learning more about Kagan's judicial philosophy.
President Barack Obama nominated Kagan, the U.S. solicitor general, to succeed retiring Justice John Paul Stevens. Confirmation hearings are scheduled June 28.
