Two men face felony charges in pot scheme

Two men facing Class A felony charges of conspiracy to deliver more than 50 pounds of marijuana are being held in the Cass County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Van Liem Phan, 53, and Nghia Trong Nguyen, 29, were arrested Friday night in Fargo after a driver they allegedly hired to transport the marijuana from Washington state to Minneapolis set up a meeting with drug enforcement agents.

According to court documents:

During a traffic stop near Mandan, a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper found high-grade marijuana in a mattress in the back of a pickup driven by 37-year-old Michael Williams.

Williams told agents from the Metro Area Narcotics Task Force that Phan and Nguyen were paying him $5,000 to transport the drugs from Renton, Wash., to a house in Minneapolis.

Williams arranged for Phan and Nguyen to meet him at a hotel in Fargo. Phan and Nguyen were arrested and taken to Cass County Jail.

Phan is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Cass County District Court on Tuesday, and Nguyen will appear for a hearing on June 17.
