Tanker crash shuts down westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 2 in NDNIAGARA, N.D. (AP) — The westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 2 in northeast North Dakota were shut down for a couple of hours late Monday and early Tuesday after a tanker truck hauling anhydrous ammonia crashed.
The Highway Patrol says the tanker did not rupture when it rolled in the median in a construction zone near Niagara, but a small amount of the farm chemical vented through pressure release valves.
Sgt. Dan Haugen says the westbound lanes were closed and traffic detoured for about two hours, and then again later for another hour while the tanker was removed. The eastbound lanes were closed for about 20 minutes during the tanker removal.
The driver suffered minor injuries.
