Wentz’s complete game helps Bison avoid sweep

North Dakota State sophomore Zach Wentz tossed his fourth complete game of the year as the Bison posted a 5-4 win over South Dakota State on Sunday at Newman Outdoor Field.

With the game tied 4-4, the Bison (21-27, 10-13 Summit League) plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Zach Heidmann led off with a double and scored on an infield ground ball hit by Tyler Steen.

Nic Obey hit his sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning to give NDSU an early 2-0 lead.

Wentz struck out four to help North Dakota State avoid getting swept by the Jackrabbits.

NDSU remains in sixth place in The Summit League and are just one game out of playoff position with four games left to play in the regular season.

The Bison play a four-game series against Oral Roberts beginning Thursday in Tulsa, Okla.
