ELCA NW Minn. Synod Assembly shoots down congregation ratification resolution

The Northwestern Minnesota Synod Assembly has voted down a resolution that favored requiring some actions at the denominational assembly to be ratified by local congregations.

This resolution, which came up at on second day of the synod's annual assembly, could be seen as a reaction to the controversial decisions on sexuality that the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America made at its August Churchwide Assembly. At that assembly, the denomination voted to allow individuals in committed, same-gender relationships to serve in the clergy and passed a controversial human sexuality social statement.
