Local United Way names new leaderUnited Way of Cass-Clay has named Melinda Haun its new president.
Haun most recently served as the president and chief professional officer of United Way of Chippewa County in Chippewa Falls, Wis.
She starts her new position June 16.
Haun replaces Judy Green, who resigned in February to become executive director of marketing for women’s services for Sanford Health-MeritCare.
Haun has been with United Way of Chippewa County for 15 years.
She said it was a difficult decision to leave, but professionally she was looking for a position that would be challenging in the long term.
“I knew that United Way of Cass-Clay was a very strong organization, the area was very philanthropic and certainly the business climate is very positive,” Haun said. “It’s an area that’s growing and thriving, so it was very compelling for me to look into the position.”
Jeffrey Slaby, United Way of Cass Clay’s 2010 board of trustees chairman and search committee chairman, said 34 candidates from across the country applied.
“We were fortunate enough to find somebody who not only has great United Way experience, but also has a connection back to North Dakota and the Fargo-Moorhead area,” Slaby said.
Haun is originally from St. Thomas, N.D., and graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She held the positions of vice president and director of community resources/evaluation at United Way of Cass-Clay from 1984 to 1993.
