Petition to remove Vizenor dismissed

The White Earth Reservation Tribal Council has rejected a petition to remove the tribe’s chairwoman, claiming the petition lacked sufficient signatures.

The council sent a letter to petition organizers on May 7 detailing the reasons for dismissing the petition to oust Erma J. Vizenor.

Among the reasons for rejecting the petition, the council said 86 were eliminated because the names of the individuals were printed, and no corresponding signatures were present.

The council said 542 signatures were needed to make the petition valid, but only 375 names remained after the others were removed.
