Portraits: Andrew Young

Andrew Young runs the show. The 20-year-old North Dakota State University sophomore from Napoleon, N.D., is the general manager for SU TV, the university’s cable news program. Young remains cool while giving decisive orders to the camera crew and video and audio editors while working behind the scenes during the taping of the show. “I was really interested in film when I was growing up, and since there isn’t a film school nearby, I thought I’d give TV broadcast at NDSU a try.” Young will take his passion to New York this summer as an intern for ABC television working on the “Good Morning America” show. “I will be living with roommates from Yale, Stanford and Georgetown, and then there is me from North Dakota State,” Young said. “I really like the spur-of-the-moment atmosphere in the control room. Things can change any second, and it’s always a surprise. It’s really fun when things flow well.” Viewers can check out the end result on TV Fargo Channel 12, airing Mondays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m.
