Flowers offered salary of $160K in West Fargo

When he takes on West Fargo School District’s top spot, David Flowers will receive the highest salary the district had advertised they’d pay its next leader.

The former Fargo superintendent and West Fargo’s next school district leader was offered a salary of $160,000 on Friday.

“(The amount) was a no-brainer,” School Board President Tom Gentzkow said. “We feel pretty comfortable with the contract we have for him.”

He said Flowers’ total compensation could be around $176,000.

In Hutchinson, Kan., where he’s been the superintendent the last three years, he receives a $159,000 salary and $185,273 in total compensation.

Before Flowers left Fargo in 2007, he received a salary of about $149,000.

He accepted the West Fargo job last week and starts July 1. The district had advertised the position receiving a salary of $140,000 to $160,000.

The school board gave him the salary offer on Friday after they met in a closed session.

The board is expected to approve his two-year contract on Monday if Flowers accepts the contract terms.

Human Resources Director Robin Hill said he’ll receive pay for moving expenses; an amount hasn’t yet been determined.

In contrast, this year, Fargo Superintendent Rick Buresh will receive a salary of $174,930, or $195,126 in total compensation.
