Public to weigh in on Detroit Lakes smoking banDEVILS LAKE, N.D. – The Devils Lake City Commission has voted 3-2 to ask the public to weigh in on whether to extend the current smoking ban to bars.
The results of the advisory vote will not be binding on the commission. The date of the vote has not been set.
Opponents of an advisory vote say the commission should be deciding the issue rather than conducting opinion polls. Commissioner Craig Stromme says he proposed the advisory vote because he thinks any commission action on a smoking ban extension would end up before voters anyway.
