West Fargo to name new superintendent
The decision was initially slated for mid-May, but two out-of-state finalists asked the school board to push up the decision to give their districts time to find a replacement.
“I think we’ll be ready,” School Board Vice President Karen Nitzkorski said Thursday. “We’ve put a lot of thought into it. I think we’ll try to come to a unanimous decision.”
The three finalists – Hutchinson (Kan.) Superintendent David Flowers, Perham-Dent (Minn.) Superintendent Tamara Uselman and West Fargo Assistant Superintendent Louise Dardis – met with principals, students, teachers and community members this past week.
The school board will meet at 9:30 a.m. today at the district office, the Leidal Education Center, to name Superintendent Dana Diesel Wallace’s successor.
It will be a “tough talk,” School Board President Tom Gentzkow said.
The seven-member board will narrow the three finalists to two and then to one finalist. Nitzkorski said it could take up to two hours to make a final decision.
Board members will consider their interviews with the three candidates, Gentzkow said, as well as how each candidate interacted with the district staff, students and community members.
“It’s a win-win for everybody, whoever we select,” he said. “They’re exceptional candidates.”
Diesel Wallace, whose last day is June 30, is leaving the district after four years, citing “new opportunities.”
