H&R Block closing Linton facilityLINTON, N.D. — H&R Block Inc. is closing its facility in the south central North Dakota town of Linton and laying off 35 workers.
H&R Block is the nation's largest tax preparer. Spokeswoman Kate O'Neill Rauber says 26 of the Linton workers were laid off Tuesday. Three others will work until May 3 and six more until June 1.
O'Neill Rauber says H&R Block looks for ways to cut costs at the end of every tax season and decided that work done in Linton could be transferred to other locations. The Linton employees prepared returns, took customer calls and did information technology and accounts receivable work.
They will be paid for an additional two weeks and will receive severance packages.
