Opera production an amazing eventAnyone who chose not to attend the FM Opera Company’s performance of “La Traviata” missed an amazing event. From the set decorations to the costuming, the appearance was first class.
However, it was the voices of the entire cast that set me back in my chair. The lead soprano, appearing direct from Italy, could not have been more inspiring in both her singing and her presentation, especially after learning that this was her debut performance in the role of Violetta. An even more pleasant surprise was the fact that all but three members of the entire cast live in the Fargo-Moorhead area, another testament to the quality of vocal abilities resident in our community.
I realize that many people consider opera an unapproachable and challenging art form with which to relate, but the presence of all the words in English broadcast above the stage and the fact that opera generally has a simple and straightforward story line makes the FM Opera a “must-do” in my book.
I hope to see standing-room-only attendance at the two productions scheduled for the upcoming 2010-11 season.
