Flood 2009 retrospective: April 13

April 13 – The Sheyenne continued to be the problem river and was putting immense strain on levees all along its path. A breach

in one near the Valley City State University campus prompted the city to evacuate slightly less than one-third of the city.

Water also prompted officials to close Interstate 94 between Bismarck and Jamestown.

Cass County residents had to drive with caution because roads in the west and southwest were either damaged or submerged in water.

Meanwhile, the Red continued to retreat and was now at 32.51 feet.

These daily accounts are from the book “Will Over Water,” available at The Forum and area bookstores.
