Flood 2009: The cost of cleaning up

April 2 – The cost of cleaning up after the flood was bound to be high.

The “Spirit of Fargo Flood Fund” would surely help. City officials also got word that the Federal Emergency Management Agency would reimburse the North Dakota National Guard and Fargo more than $1.3 billion for costs incurred during the flood.

It was helpful to know, but it wouldn’t be an immediate relief for those still battling water.

Take the area south of Fargo, for example. Floodwaters submerged the roads there connecting those 40 or 50 residents to the outside world.

Families had to ferry from homes to school and work.

These daily accounts are from the book “Will Over Water,” available at The Forum and area bookstores.
