Flood 2009: Retreating river

It wasn’t just the floodwaters that concerned people when they woke up.

In fact, for most, it was tough to even catch a glimpse of the feisty Red through the wall of white snow – 10 inches to be exact.

There was worry about what all this snow would do to the river and a potential second crest.

But there was good news, too.

The river was retreating. It was now below 38 feet.

Better yet, some residents were returning to their homes.

These daily accounts are from the book “Will Over Water,” available at The Forum and area bookstores.
