FEMA administrator to visit Devils Lake Basin

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — Sen. Kent Conrad says Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Craig Fugate will visit the Devils Lake Basin later this spring to get a firsthand look at flooding.

Devils Lake has risen about 27 feet and tripled in size since 1993 because of a series of wet years. The National Weather Service says the lake is almost certain to reach 1,452 feet this summer.

Ramsey County Emergency Manager Tim Heisler (HYS'-lur) says about 165 homes might have to be moved.

Each 1-foot increase in the Devils Lake elevation also puts another 10,000 acres of land under water.

The lake was at 1,450.52 feet on Tuesday.
