Moorhead police arrest man accused of trying to steal ATVMOORHEAD – Police here are investigating whether a Fargo man arrested early today for allegedly trying to steal an ATV from a shed also stole a vehicle found abandoned on Main Avenue.
Officers were called at 2:24 a.m. to the 3000 block of 22nd Street South in Moorhead for a report of an attempted theft, according to a news release from Lt. Jim Nielsen.
The ATV’s owner told police a man started the engine inside the shed and was backing it out when the owner yelled at him to stop. The man fled on foot.
Police got a call about 55 minutes later of a man in someone’s yard in the neighborhood. They arrested Jesse Lee Dumont, 34, of Fargo, on suspicion of burglary, tampering with a motor vehicle, attempted theft and criminal damage to property.
Police believe the suspect left a vehicle abandoned on Main Avenue near I-94 before 1:43 a.m., but they’re not sure if the vehicle is stolen, the news release stated. The suspect also allegedly broke a window on Village Green Drive between the time he left the vehicle and tried to steal the ATV.
