Utilities want PSC review of power line project

BISMARCK – Two Minnesota utilities want North Dakota regulators to take an advance look at a $1.7 billion power line project.

The CapX2020 project includes almost 670 miles of new power lines. Most of the construction would happen in Minnesota, although some segments would be built in North and South Dakota.

Otter Tail Power Co. and Xcel Energy Inc. want the North Dakota Public Service Commission to conclude the power line project is a good idea for electric ratepayers before it is built.

Commissioner Tony Clark says the advance finding could lower the project’s financing costs. The PSC has scheduled hearings May 24-25 on the request.
