Take closer look at West Fargo schoolsUsing the West Fargo School Board’s own figures, they say the district will have 1,878 “new” students by 2015. They want the residents of West Fargo and other communities to spend $40 million to provide room for these students.
If you divide the cost by the number of new students, it comes to $21,299 per new student. Where are the estimates for furnishings, equipment, new-teacher salaries and benefits, books, etc. that must be paid?
All of the current buildings and future construction will only be utilized from 8:40 a.m. to 3:40 p.m., or seven hours for educational purposes. Some facilities will be used “after” hours for noneducational purposes.
I believe the collective talent of the West Fargo School Board can do better. Why ask taxpayers to pay $40 million when other less-costly solutions should be considered?
We have future taxes looming over us for the West Fargo water treatment plant and future flood diversion that will also have to be paid.
So, $77 per year on a $100,000 home is only the beginning.
