Driver rescued after pickup collides with trainRUSTAD, Minn. – Clay County Sheriff’s deputies rescued the driver of a pickup truck after his vehicle collided with a train, rolled over and landed in a flooded ditch early Saturday.
The accident happened on County Road 8 near Rustad, Minn., seven miles south of Moorhead, said Sheriff Bill Bergquist.
Shawn D. Christ of Rothsay, Minn., was eastbound when he struck the second engine of the train. The collision totaled Christ’s pickup and caused little damage to the train.
Three sheriff’s deputies rescued the Christ, who was trapped in his vehicle after the accident. He was taken to Innovis Health in Fargo, where he was treated and released.
According to a news release from the Clay county Sheriff’s Department, alcohol and fog were factors in the crash.
