Bergquist: Drivers urged to use caution on roads

Several Clay County roads have washed out due to flooding, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Bill Bergquist said drivers should use caution when traveling on county roads during the spring, “especially with the amount of water that is starting to flow.”

“When driving on county roads, be watching for spots where the water has started washing away the road surface,” Bergquist said in a news release issued Friday. “Another danger is places where the water is going under the road in culverts. Some of these spots will cave in from underneath without any visible warning.”

In addition, Bergquist urged that anyone who notices washed out roads or water over roads to call local law enforcement to report it.
