FLOOD UPDATE: Flood watch issued for southern Red RiverFARGO – The Red River and other rivers in the southern basin could reach minor flood stage by late weekend, the National Weather Service warns.
The weather service issued a flood watch for the Red River at Wahpeton-Breckenridge as well as Fargo-Moorhead; the Buffalo River at Sabin, near Hawley and Dilworth; and the Wild Rice River at Abercrombie.
Recent rains and milder temperatures have started snowmelt to trickle into southern Red River Valley rivers and streams.
A river forecast predicts the Red could reach 21.8 feet in Fargo-Moorhead by next Thursday. As of this afternoon, the Red River was at 16.23 feet.
Minor flood stage for the Red River at Fargo-Moorhead begins at 18 feet. Major flood stage begins at 30 feet.
