College hockey: Minnesota at UND

WCHA playoffs Friday, Saturday, Sunday (if necessary)

Ralph Engelstad Arena, Grand Forks

The Sioux and the Gophers are meeting in the first round of the WCHA playoffs for the first time since 2002 and the best-of-3 weekend series is already sold out. Sioux senior forward Chris VandeVelde will be playing his final games at Ralph Engelstad Arena. VandeVelde leads the team with 33 points, including 13 goals. No. 5-ranked UND (20-11-5) enters the weekend on a seven-game winning streak.

Junior hockey: Lincoln at Fargo

Friday, 7:35 p.m.; Saturday, 7:05 p.m.

Urban Plains Center

Fargo has already clinched a playoff spot, but the Force are making a push for the No. 1 seed in the Western Division. With just 10 games to go in the regular season, Fargo is just four points behind Lincoln. The Force have won both meetings against the Stars this season.

High school basketball: Minnesota Class 2A, Section 8 girls championship

Friday, 7 p.m.

Concordia College

Hawley takes on East Grand Forks in the Class 2A, Section 8 championship game, and the third-ranked Nuggets are 27-0 on the season. However, the Green Wave has knocked Hawley out of the last two section tournaments – including a 23-2 Nuggets team in 2008 that was also ranked third in the state.

High school basketball: Minnesota Class 1A, Section 6 boys tournament

Saturday, 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Concordia College

A pair Class 1A, Section 6 quarterfinal games will be at Concordia, and two ranked teams could potentially be in action. The first round takes place tonight, and barring upsets, Saturday’s first game could feature third-ranked Ada-Borup (24-1), while the nightcap could feature ninth-ranked Park Christian (21-5).
