Hearing set for charged in ND murderASHLEY, N.D. (AP) — A court date has been set for next month for a South Dakota man accused of murdering a Minnesota man in North Dakota.
McIntosh County state's attorney Terry Elhard says he'll release autopsy results during the April 13 preliminary hearing for Nicholas Caspers.
The 27-year-old is accused in the Feb. 28 death of 30-year-old Paul Varner, who is originally from Pierz, Minn., and was working at Wishek Livestock Sales.
Authorities say Varner was pronounced dead at the Wishek hospital after a fight with Caspers.
An attorney for Caspers, who has been living in Bismarck, says his client acted in self-defense.
Caspers, an auctioneer for Mobridge Livestock Market, is from Hecla, S.D. He was the 2008 South Dakota Auctioneers Association bid calling champion.
