Couple, 17 pets escape house fire near Enderlin, ND

ENDERLIN, N.D. – A couple and their 17 pets escaped a fire that destroyed their rural Enderlin home early today, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said.

Crews responded to the blaze at about 12:05 a.m. at the David and Laurie Geyer farmstead about 11 miles east and one mile north of Enderlin.

The Geyers were home when the fire started in the chimney area and the house began to fill with smoke. They were able to get themselves and their 14 dogs and three cats out of the house safely, according to Deputy Chris Fix.

Firefighting crews from Enderlin and Leonard battled the blaze for almost three hours, but the house was a total loss.

The Salvation Army, Casselton Ambulance and sheriff’s office also responded to the fire.
