Bison men's track: Jackson drops football, stays with trackTrack won out over football for Kevin Jackson. The Bison sophomore said Sunday he’s decided to give up the two-sport concept and devote his concentration to the sprints.
“Football is a sport where you have to love it,” Jackson said. “You have to have a huge passion for it. Don’t get me wrong, I had a ton of fun but that’s not my true passion.”
185-pound Jackson played in nine games last year as a redshirt freshman registering eight tackles and one pass break up. The original plan this year was to run indoor track and compete in spring football. He is one of NDSU’s top track sprinters. In high school, Jackson was a major part of two Michigan state championship track and field teams at East Kentwood High in Grand Rapids.
“I would be cheating myself and cheating the team,” he said, in reference to staying with football.
