Aging dorm at Mayville State to be demolished

MAYVILLE, N.D. - Demolition of a 92-year-old dormitory at Mayville State will begin this week.

But some relics of East Hall may see new life.

MSU alumni have recovered oak wainscoting, five-panel doors and hardwood flooring that will be used for the its new alumni center in the refurbished Northwest Hall.

East Hall was built in 1917-18. It closed in May 2008.

The building is part of the campus' historic district, which is on the national register. Campus officials and alumni tried to find a way to save the building, but renovations and upgrades would have been costly.
