Boys hockey: Grand Forks Central posts 13-0 win over Deacons
Grand Forks Central scored just a half-minute in to spark a six-goal first period on the way to a 13-0 first-round victory over Fargo Shanley at the Urban Plains Center.
“One thing we talked about was a strong start, because you don’t want to let teams hang around,” Central coach Tony Bina said. “We wanted to finish some chances right off the bat, and we did that.”
Casey Purpur scored four goals and added an assist, while Luke Johnson had three goals and an assist as seven different Knights scored a goal in the win.
“We wanted to get guys like that going and sharp right away,” Bina said. “We got a lot of production from two lines, and that was good to see.”
Johnson got the scoring started just 30 seconds in, and Purpur notched two more in the next 3 minutes, 12 seconds, and the Knights (19-3-0) were on their way.
Grand Forks Central outshot Shanley 53-6 in the victory, and four of Shanley’s shots came in the second period.
