Portraits: Hot Rod enthusiast Cody Wendelbo

Cody Wendelbo loves summer. He gets to dream of it every day while working at his business, The Hot Rod Shop of Fargo. Wendelbo, 31, got the car bug at an early age. “I would just sit in my mom’s 1965 Mustang and play. That was the beginning.”

He graduated from Fargo’s Oak Grove High School, attended North Dakota State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead, and landed a job in manufacturing. He opened his own car shop three years ago with his dad, Carl. “It’s nice to work with family,” Wendelbo said.

He’s a member of the local Toppers Car Club and owns a few nice rides of his own: a 1977 Corvette, a 1934 Ford and a 1930 Ford coupe.

“I love my job because I get to work on other cars and help them build their dream rides. It’s just a fun group of people in the F-M area. I just can’t wait until the downtown cruise nights start up again.”
