Weather Talk: Property owners: Please take care of your icy sidewalks

While most property owners have cleared the snowdrifts from Monday’s blizzard, it is apparent that some have no intention of doing anything about the remaining ice problem.

If you need a Saturday project idea, here’s a suggestion: Go to a hardware store and get something to put on your icy sidewalks to either melt the ice or at least provide some traction.

I actually got mine pretty clean by scraping the ice off last Sunday, before it got cold. But it is too late for that now. That ice is hard. It is also dangerous for walking. And while nobody expects the sidewalks to be perfectly clean in the winter, those of us who use the sidewalks would certainly appreciate a little more effort, and a little traction underfoot.

And while you’re at it, maybe you could do something about those mountains of ice covering the sidewalks at some street corners.
