Prince pens a Vikings anthem

Minnesota rocker Prince has recorded a purple-tinted tribute to the Vikings.

The “Purple Rain” songsmith told Twin Cities Fox affiliate KMSP-TV that he penned “Purple and Gold” after he saw the Vikings beat Dallas at the Metrodome in a playoff game last weekend. Prince told the station he hadn’t seen the team play in years until this season, saying, “I saw the future.”

The hymn-like Vikings song includes the lyrics, “raise every voice and let it b known/in the name of the purple and gold.”

Wide receiver Bernard Berrian sounded excited.

“Thanks to Prince for his Vikings song,” Berrian wrote on his Twitter page. “He is definitely one of my favorites. Let’s go craaaaazy!!”

Prince was in a suite for two games this season, according to Vikings chief marketing officer Steve LaCroix.

The Vikings take on the Saints in New Orleans this Sunday in the NFC Championship game.
