Black bear on Internet gives birth to cub in Minnesota
Biologist Lynn Rogers said Lily gave birth just after 11:30 a.m. Friday. He based that on contortions the bear made, followed by “sweet grunts” showing concern for a cub.
Rogers doesn’t know if the cub is male or female. He said a bear’s first litter is typically one or two cubs, so a second cub was possible. But by Friday evening, he said, so much time had passed he thought it unlikely the 3-year-old Lily would deliver a second cub.
Rogers and his North American Bear Center put a camera in Lily’s den outside Ely that streams her activity live. She started labor Thursday afternoon.
