Wimmer seeks another term on Fargo City Commission

Fargo City Commissioner Brad Wimmer filed paperwork Thursday to run for another term.

Wimmer said he wants to help the city address flood control and growth issues. He said he expects Fargo will top the 100,000-resident mark in the 2010 census.

“Cities 101. We’re just trying to keep Fargo growing, we’re trying to keep the community safe. We’re trying to keep taxes at bay,” Wimmer said.

He said there is still room for growth downtown, and around the new high school going up on the city’s southern edge.

Wimmer said he decided against challenging Mayor Dennis Walaker.

“I think the public has a lot of confidence in Dennis, and I wouldn’t want to go up against that at this point. I’m very content to be a commissioner. … I would certainly enjoy another four years in the job.”

City Commissioner Tim Mahoney, whose seat is also up for election, said he will likely file next week to run for re-election.
