Rollover kills driver, injures two childrenFOSSTON, Minn. – A Bagley woman died and two children in the vehicle she was driving were injured when it rolled on Highway 2 just east of Fosston on Wednesday, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.
Clarissa H. Ballek, 39, was westbound on Highway 2 at the Gilbertson curve about 8:26 a.m. when the Saturn Vue went off the north shoulder, overcorrected and rolled back onto the road, the patrol reported.
Ballek was ejected from the vehicle, as was one child who had been sitting in the back seat. The second child, the only person in the vehicle who was wearing a seat belt, remained in the front passenger seat, the patrol reported. The vehicle came to rest in the road.
Ballek was transported to First Care in Fosston and later pronounced dead, the report stated.
The children were identified as Joseph R. Ballek, 13, and Corban A. Ballek, 10, both of Bagley. The patrol report did not identify which child was thrown from the vehicle.
The child who was in the rear seat suffered a serious injury, which was not detailed in the report. The child in the front passenger seat suffered a broken arm.
Both children were taken by LifeFlight to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, the report stated.
A MeritCare hospital official said the family requested that no information be released on the condition of the children.
The patrol reported that the four-lane road was icy at the time of the crash.
The Clearwater County and Polk County sheriff’s departments responded to the scene, the report said.
