Area Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign surpasses goal by almost $100,000

The Salvation Army’s 2009 Red Kettle campaign raised a record $744,715 in the Fargo-Moorhead area, the organization announced this morning.

The organization’s goal this year was $650,000. The 2008 campaign raised what had been a record $657,270.

“An awesome task has been completed in this community,” Capt. Bill Mealy of the Salvation Army said at a Fargo news conference.

The success of this year’s campaign reflects the ef-forts of many people and the region’s generosity, said Doug Burgum of the Kilbourne Group, honor-ary 2009 Kettle chairman.

The campaign earns about 58 percent of the Salvation Army’s annual budget.
