Snowmobile riderless for two miles

HANLEY FALLS, Minn. – A snowmobile apparently traveled more than two miles, even venturing over two roads, all without a rider after he fell off and was injured, authorities said.

According to a news release, a Yellow Medicine County sheriff’s deputy on patrol spotted a person lying in a ditch along a county road about 1 a.m. Sunday.

It appeared that the individual had been involved in a snowmobile accident, authorities said. The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Granite Falls.

However, authorities didn’t find the snowmobile at the scene and it appeared to have taken off after the throttle had frozen wide open after the man had crashed.
