Police to talk to person of interest in Mapleton stabbing caseInvestigators may speak yet this afternoon with the “person of interest” sought in connection with a stabbing Wednesday in Mapleton, N.D.
Cass County Det. Steve Gabrielson said they have made indirect contact with Nicholas Bruesch, the 22-year-old investigators have indentified as a “person of interest” in the stabbing of Dante Smith, 22, of Fargo.
He said Bruesch has said through a friend he might come in voluntarily to give a statement.
Bruesch, who has a long criminal history including at least five assault convictions, was living next door to the home where Smith found help after sustaining an inch-wide knife wound on the right side of his abdomen, Gabrielson said.
Authorities have recovered Bruesch’s car, he said. That’s the green Pontiac officials said they were looking for Wednesday.
Gabrielson said doctors at Innovis told him Smith is likely to survive the stabbing, thanks to prompt medical attention. He was flown by helicopter Wednesday from Mapleton to the Fargo hospital.
