UPDATE: Fargo hit-and-run victim doing better, able to talk

A 25-year-old Fargo man was conscious and able to speak today for the first time since being seriously insured by a hit-and-run driver early Wednesday, his father said.

Dan Bohmer said he spoke to his 25-year-old son, Justin, around 11 a.m. after doctors weaned him off a ventilator and removed breathing tubes from his throat.

“He seems to be his old self,” he said. “I mean, we were kind of kidding around a bit and joking.”

Family members had been unsure about Justin Bohmer’s neurological condition after he was found about 4:43 a.m. Wednesday bleeding from the head and lying in the middle of Eighth Street South between 12th and 13th avenues south.

Meanwhile, donations and pledges have helped push to $3,500 a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver who hit Bohmer, his father said.
