Judge Georgia Dawson plans to retire Sept. 1A North Dakota district judge in Fargo is retiring.
Georgia Dawson said in a letter that she will leave the bench Sept. 1.
The 60-year-old Dawson is the chief administrative judge in the East Central Judicial District. It has eight judges and includes Cass, Steele and Traill counties.
Gov. John Hoeven will appoint Dawson’s successor. Her term ends in 2014.
Dawson worked as a private attorney and prosecutor in Jamestown, N.D., and as a private lawyer in Fargo before she became a judge in 1988.
The Supreme Court will review whether Dawson’s position should be moved out of Fargo to balance the state’s judicial workload, but it is unlikely her position will be transferred.
