Dorgan campaign fund a worry for ND RepublicansBISMARCK (AP) — Democratic U.S. Sen. Byron Dorgan has a $4 million campaign fund and no election race to run, and that is making North Dakota Republicans nervous.
State GOP Chairman Gary Emineth says Dorgan could use the money to influence state races well into the future.
Dorgan says he hasn't decided what to do with the money. He has to give refunds to some donors and paid bills for his campaign operation.
But election experts say Dorgan could do a lot of things with the money that's left over, including making donations to Democratic candidates or the state party.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger says North Dakota law doesn't have any donation limits to restrict how much Dorgan may support his party's candidates.
