Two injured in accident involving ambulance

At least two people were injured about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday when a northbound ambulance struck a median guard rail on Interstate 29 just south of 13th Avenue in Fargo.

Lisbon (N.D.) Ambulance was transporting a Lisbon woman to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo for treatment, according to a news release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The ambulance driver, Christina Swonger, 29, said a semi drifted into her lane and when she reacted to the semi’s movement she lost control of the vehicle.

Swonger and a paramedic, Melanie Daxter, 44, were transported to Innovis Health in Fargo for treatment.

The patient, Alice Anderson, 91, was being transported to MeritCare in Fargo and then to Innovis Health at some point in the night for treatment, according to a news release, which stated it is unknown if that was for a pre-existing condition or from injuries suffered in the crash.
