Web site pleads with Dorgan to stay in SenateFARGO – Supporters of Sen. Byron Dorgan are pleading to the North Dakota Democrat: Please stay.
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee created the Web site PleaseStayByron.com following Dorgan’s announcement Tuesday evening.
The group is calling on Dorgan supporters to write the senator and ask him to reconsider his decision not to run for a fourth term.
“Senator Dorgan, don’t retire!” the Web site states. “We need people like you in the Senate, fighting for the little guy against corporate power. Please keep fighting for us, and we'll fight for you.”
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is a national grassroots group with North Dakota members.
By 11:30 a.m., the site had garnered nearly 1,300 signatures and letters on a petition that the committee said it will send to Dorgan’s office.
In a conference call this morning, Dorgan reiterated that he wants to pursue other interests outside public service, but pledged he would stay active in North Dakota politics.
“This is not a decision you make lightly, and it’s not an easy decision,” Dorgan said. “I think it’s the right time and the right decision.”
