ATM attempt leads to burglary suspectAn alleged car burglar was caught after she tried to use a victim’s ATM card at a downtown Fargo hotel, police said.
The burglary was reported at 11 p.m. Monday in the 2300 block of 20½ Ave. S.
Two female victims parked a 2008 Chevy Avalanche, leaving it locked but running, Fargo police Sgt. Mark Lykken said.
About 10 minutes later, they heard the car alarm going off and went outside to find the vehicle’s door lock broken and their purses missing, he said, adding the purses contained cash, credit cards and personal ID materials.
One of the victims was notified at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday that someone tried to use her ATM card at the Howard Johnson Inn at 301 3rd Ave. N. Police found the suspects in a room there, Lykken said.
Dana Ree Megenuph, 34, of Minneapolis was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized use of personal ID, possession of stolen property and providing a false name to police.
Brittany Denise Belgarde, 24, of St. John, N.D., was arrested on suspicion of providing a false name and on an unrelated warrant. A man was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
The case remains under investigation, Lykken said.
