State parks, trails host 30 candlelight events

ST. PAUL – Minnesota state parks and state trails are hosting 30 candlelight events this winter.

The Minnesota DNR said the family-friendly events provide an opportunity to ski, snowshoe or hike through woods and prairies on trails illuminated by the warm glow of candles. Park and trail visitors can then warm up around a fire and roast marshmallows or enjoy a hot drink.

The candlelit trails are typically short and flat, suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

Rental equipment is available at some parks, but the DNR advises calling ahead to check availability.

Skiers need a Minnesota Ski Pass if they are 16 or older. They’re available at most state parks and vendors that sell fishing and hunting licenses, as well as online from the DNR, at www.dnr.state.mn.us/licenses/agents.html.
