New Ulm boy gives cats at shelter new furniture

NEW ULM, Minn. – A little boy who thought he had enough toys of his own decided to do something for others for his birthday. And now, folks at the Brown County Humane Society think Jack Brownfield is just the cat’s meow.

When Jack turned 8 in October, he asked for money instead of toys so he could help others. This holiday season, he walked into the Humane Society with an envelope filled with $110, and told workers he thought the cats could use some furniture.

So officials used the money to buy a cat “treehouse.”

Jill Tostenrud of the Humane Society said that within 30 seconds of getting the treehouse, a handful of felines began climbing all over it. She said the cats just love their new toy and it’s pretty neat that Jack thought of others.
