Judge sentences halfway house runawayBISMARCK – A man who walked away from a Mandan halfway house has been sentenced to serve eight months in custody.
Francis Reed was placed at Centre Inc. in May to serve the final eight months of a 51-month federal sentence on weapon and assault charges. Authorities say he left the facility a work permit on July 11 and failed to return. He was arrested about a week later, along with a woman who left Centre without permission.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland says Reed should serve his sentence in a Jamestown jail, but may be placed in a North Dakota halfway house if no space is available.
