Moorhead officials declare snow emergency, warn not to park on emergency routes

Moorhead city officials have declared a snow emergency in light of the blizzard conditions in the area.

Police are reminding residents that they cannot park on designated pri-mary or secondary emergency routes during this time, so as to allow access for city snow plows to clear the roads.

Public safety vehicles need to use the routes when responding to emer-gencies.

Vehicles left in these areas are subject to being removed and impounded at the owner’s expense, according to a statement from Moorhead police.

“We are attempting to let the owner’s know in advance of their cars either being buried by snow or towed,” police Sgt. Mike Detloff said in an e-mail. “We are hoping they will take this time to move their vehicles to allow the plows more room to remove the snow efficiently as possible.”
