Worker dies after falling in pit at Denver airport

DENVER – Denver airport officials say a contract worker died after falling into about 20 feet of water at the bottom of a 40-foot-deep pit at the airport’s heating and cooling plant.

The man fell Saturday morning, and Denver Police Department divers recovered his body later in the day. His name hasn’t been released.

Denver International Air-port spokesman Jeff Green says the man was a paint inspector working for an outside company under con-tract with the airport.

Green says airport officials aren’t certain how he fell.

The pit’s opening is about 4 feet by 8 feet.

Denver police are investi-gating.
