Minn.'s Ritchie thanks officials for recount work

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota's elections chief is thanking county officials for their work on the U.S. Senate recount in the election between Republican Norm Coleman and Democrat Al Franken.

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie will address the Association of Minnesota Counties' annual conference in Minneapolis on Tuesday.

Ritchie, a Democrat serving his first term, oversaw the biggest recount in Minnesota history.

The extremely thin margin between Coleman and Franken in last year's election triggered an automatic recount that lasted more than a month and led to months more of litigation.

Franken won in June after the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled unanimously in his favor and Coleman conceded. His margin was 312 votes out of nearly 2.9 million cast.
